Reviews of Full-Text Handbook-Type Collections
:: On ELDNET-L (I can't link to the post), Kate Thomes asks:
Hi everyone. I know this topic has been discussed on ELDnet before, but my library system was not dealing much with the issues at the time and I do not find a record of the discussion in my files. If you have comments, Kate can be reached at Bevier Engineering Library, U Pittsburgh, at 412-624-9620 or kthomes+ AT pitt DOT edu.I would like to know if folks have assessed the relative merits of various ebook services including Referex, EngNetBase, Kluwer Online Reference Works, knovel, etc.
Does anyone have an ELDnet discussion summary of this topic, or have specific experiences and opinions they'd like to share with me?
I thought it would be interesting to see what reviews of some of these products are "out there", so did a quick web search, and found a few:
- California State U Electronic Access to Information Resources Committee: review of Knovel, and response from Knovel.
- Information Today: a review of Knovel by Paula J Hane
- Charleston Advisor: v4 n2 Oct 2002 review of Knovel, v5 n2 Oct 2003 review of Dekker eBooks, v4 n4 April 2003 review of netLibrary Revisited, v5 n4 Feb 2004 review of Dekker Encyclopedias, v6 n2 Oct 2004 review of ebrary Revisited,
- From BUSLIB-L: Engineering information productivity tools, in which comments and observations are provided for Knovel, Referex, and ENGnetBASE, by a number of engineering librarians.
- E-STREAMS: v4 n6 June 2001 review of ENGnetBASE.
