.: A few tidbits of interest in an otherwise quiet week:

• Silence in the Stacks: from Inside HigherEd, a column by Scott McLemee bemoaning the dearth of intellectual discourse in blogs by academic librarians.
  
• Dave Hook, most recently the Chair of the Aerospace Section of the Engineering Division of SLA, has a blog, called Industrial Librarian. Don't know how I missed this one, but then again, I'm missing a lot these days...such as the Carnival of the Infosciences 8, hosted on Dave's site. I didn't realize #s 1-7 had already happened, or that this thing even existed.
  
• Recent E-STREAMS are available: August (pdf or html), and September (html only so far).
  
• Walt Crawford's latest Cites & Insights, v 5 n11 October 2005, is available.
  
• Péter Jacsó reviewed Journal Citation Reports in his August 2005 column.
  
• Connotea, a service from Nature that allows for social bookmarking of sites of interest to scientists, engineers, etc., has won an award for publishing innovation.
  
• An Examination of Citation Counts in a New Scholarly Communication Environment - Interesting article by Kathleen Bauer and Nisa Bakkalbasi, from D-Lib Magazine, v11 n5 Sept 2005. The article compares citation counts from Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus. (via Rafael.)

I am looking for reviewers with expertise in science, engineering, medicine, or agriculture to review monographs for E-STREAMS: Electronic Reviews of Science & Technology. Publishers are anxious to have their books reviewed in E-STREAMS At the present time, I have over 600 books waiting to be reviewed.

Please contact me for further information if you are not already familiar with E-STREAMS. The more reviewers, the better. I am able to handle as many as are interested. E-STREAMS is a collaborative venture between H. Robert Malinowsky, University of Illinois at Chicago, and YBP Library Services.
